If you’ve ever had root canal therapy, you probably know that going through the treatment is better than coping with a damaged root canal. In fact, you probably understand why most people who’ve had root canal therapy claim it’s no worse than having a cavity filled. Similarly, you may know that if an injured root canal isn’t treated, you could ultimately lose a tooth.

But, did you know that a tooth that’s had root canal therapy could need the treatment again. Fortunately, if you keep up with your oral health, you’ll be less likely to need retreatment. You should also deal with cracked or injured teeth quickly, brush and floss daily, and visit your dentist once every six months. During these visits, we’ll inspect your teeth for signs of root canal damage.

You see, if new decay reaches the center of your tooth, the infection could return. This could be the result of your tooth fracturing. Similarly, if your first treatment wasn’t successful—which is rare since 97% of root canal therapies are successful—you could need treatment again.
