If your tooth needs a crown, veneer, inlay, or onlay, Dr. Robert P. Sherman may use CEREC® in Leawood, Kansas. CEREC technology allows our dentist to provide same-day porcelain restorations at our office. This means that you will not have to wear a temporary restoration and wait two weeks for a permanent restoration to be constructed.
After removing any decay from the tooth or removing a small amount of enamel to prepare the tooth for a restoration, a digital image is taken of your tooth. If necessary, your tooth will be sprayed with a fine powder so the digital camera will capture a better image. A 3D image of the tooth will appear on a computer screen so our dentist can design the restoration. After the design is complete, the restoration will be milled by our in-office milling machine. The milling process typically takes about 15-45 minutes. If you so desire, you can watch the milling of the restoration. When the restoration is finished, our dentist will check the fit of the restoration in your mouth. After any necessary adjustments are made, the restoration will be permanently cemented into place.
